The Confederation of Australian Motorsport will assess three candidates who have expressed an interest in organising a new national rallycross championship.

The governing body cast a search for promoters to run a CAMS sanctioned national rallycross championship in July with the deadline to submit an expression of interest on August 14.

Speedcafe.com understands David Ridden’s Global Rallycross Australia company and the Rallycross Australia group headed up by Bob Watson and V8 Race Experience’s Greg Evans are among the three candidates to be assessed by CAMS in the coming weeks.

“We received three responses to the EOI (expression of interest request) and will work through them with the applicants over the coming weeks and determine the next steps,” CAMS CEO Eugene Arocca told Speedcafe.com.

Each candidate was required to submit a reply containing details of the championship’s format, commercial and financial plans.

CAMS’ search for a rallycross promoter arrives as the sport is about to be relaunched in the country on Friday courtesy of the Extreme Rallycross Championship, organised by Gold Coast businessman Ridden.

The new national series is due to host the first of its seven round championship at Queensland’s recently constructed rallycross facility at Lakeside Raceway from September 4-5.

Lakeside Raceway’s new circuit completed a successful test day earlier this month which acted as a dress rehearsal for the championship’s launch this weekend.

Alister McRae, who is the only confirmed driver in a top level Supercar Lite, will join rivals to contest the 4WD class at the Lakeside opener.

The opening round will also see action from competitors in 2WD and Hyundai Excel classes.

A full entry list is expected to be released early this week.
